TRON (TRX) To Decentralize Further By Removing the Power of the Genesis Representative

During Tron’s (TRX) Independence Day on the 25th of June, there was a group of special Representatives that were tasked in launching the Genesis block. This group was know as the Tron Independent Group (TIG) and was a community consensus-based group consisting of 27 anonymous, volunteer Genesis Representatives (GR). The duties of the TIG during the transition into the Tron Network were as follows:

  1. Providing Super Representatives with a fast track for TRX migration
  2. Providing exchange services for major exchanges that support TRX token migration
  3. They were entrusted with the 342 million TRX held by TRON foundation and stored them in a distributed manner to reduce risk
  4. Organizing the 12-hour livestream during the Independence Day
  5.  Handing out a small number of TRX during the 12-hr livestream so the members of the TRON community could test the different features of TRON mainnet

The Plan Was, and Still is, to Replace G.Rs With Super Representatives

The plan was to then replace the Genesis Representatives with the newly elected Super Representatives after first SR elections that started immediately after the Independence day and on the 26th of June.

It is with this background that Marcus Zhao, leader of Tron’s public chain division, announced that the proposal to remove the power of the Genesis Representatives will be approved. He made the announcement via twitter as can be seen below.

This is the second such vote with the first one being disapproved after failing to achieve the required 19 votes from the Super Representatives. The first attempt in late October only got 16. The new vote to remove the power of the Genesis Representatives already has 20. It has passed the 19 required ‘Yes’ votes and will be approved.

More on Removing the Genesis Representatives from Sesameseed S.R

Sesameseed – a Super Representative on the Tron Network – recently published a post on their medium page exploring the effects of the removal of the G.Rs. The action to remove them, cannot be reversed for it is hard coded into the proposal itself.

The benefits of removing the G.Rs are self evident in that the network will become more decentralized and there will be additional candidate rewards to better support both S.Rs and candidates on the network. The move might also encourage additional competition amongst all Super Representatives.
